October 1978, a 40 footer from Coast Guard Station Taylor’s Island, on Maryland’s eastern shore, meets the Maryland Dove on the Chesapeake Bay. The Maryland Dove had just been launched from the boatyard of shipwright James B. Richardson in Cambridge Maryland. In 1634, the Dove escorted the first colonists to Maryland. Still in use at the historic waterfront of St. Mary’s City, Maryland Dove is soon to be replaced by a new Maryland Dove being built by the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum.
